SILENCING RACISM: by P. M. Nance

With the rise in overt acts of white supremacy, what should be OUR response? When I say “OUR,” I mean the collective that represents those who do not share the views held by white supremacists. When I say “OUR,” I mean those people who denounce the ideologies of white supremacy. When I say “OUR,” I mean those who truly believe that a person should be judged not by the color of their skin, but by the content of their character. So what should we do? NOTHING! Give them nothing: no attention, no energy, no media coverage, don’t acknowledge their existence.

On May 25, 2019 The KKK will have a public “Meeting” in Dayton, Ohio to educate people about their organization. I understand that there will be a peaceful Anti-KKK rally conducted to oppose them. Why do this? What if the media gave their rally no coverage? What if not one television station gave them any coverage, not a single mention? No newspaper or Blogger wrote one word about them. What if not one post was made about them on social media? It’s simple, if you don’t support their views, don’t show up. Don’t give them power by showing up in an attempt to shout them down. Silence them with your absence. An organization can’t spread their views if the only people who hear these views already share them. If nobody acknowledges their existence, what would be their incentive to hosts rallies, to march, to carry their signs and symbols of hate?

We must turn our backs on hate. Don’t argue with a fool, flee from their foolishness. Leave them to themselves. They will still shout white power, go back to where you came from, and other racist jargon; but no one will hear. Well no one who matters, only those who already share their ignorant views. We already know white supremacy exists and that there are organizations dedicated to white supremacy. Therefore, we don’t need to attend their rallies to learn about what they are doing. We gain nothing by staging Anti rallies, by marching in protest against them. We indirectly empower them with our presence, with our time, with our energy. Don’t give them an audience. There is tremendous power in the simply act of ignoring. Ignore their ignorance, ignore their message, and ignore their rally. Do not give them a voice that can be heard.

If a tree falls in a forest with no one around, does it make a sound?
