Quiet Time!

We live in a fast paced word that is getting faster every single day. World news, events, happenings, gossip and whatever else is available in an instant via our cell phones.

Something is airing on the television twenty four hours a day, seven days a week. One of our gadgets is always pinging, alerting, chiming and vibrating. Quiet is a past time and peace and quiet is something most of our kids do not know anything about.

One of the definitions of quiet is the
absence of noise or bustle; silence; calm. Can’t we all use a little bit or a whole lot of calm? The reason some of us are so jittery and anxious is because our lives lack silence, calm, rest.

I remember the days when you turned on the television at 2am and got this.

I remember the days when there were only home phones and people had to leave a message if you did not answer. Now, everyone expects you to be always available and responsive.

One of my clients got to know me better when he sent a text at 11pm and I responded the next day when I got to his office. He asked if I received the message and I said I had, but I conduct business during my business hours. My business hours are defined in our contract.

He chuckled and said “duly noted”.

We have to define boundaries and enforce them. No one, and I mean no one deserves access to us 24 hours a day. Most reasonable people will understand our defined boundaries even if they are a little jealous that we have set them and they have not.

Carving out “life on my terms” has been challenging at times but staying true to who I am and what I want always yield a beautiful return. When I do not make decisions out of fear, lack or greed all is well in my soul and all ends well.

I want to encourage you to seek solitude, peace and quiet. In the quiet, we can hear what we need to hear without distraction and influence. God reveals some amazing things and secrets when He does not have to shout over the television, radio and crowds of chatter. Spirit does not scream. We have to position ourselves to hear.
